Skylla-IP44 12/60(1+1) 120-240V

Product Description

The Skylla-IP44 12/60(1+1) 120-240V is a two-output high-power battery charger that’s able to charge 2 battery banks. The second output of this Skylla-IP44 unit is limited to approximately 3A and has a slightly lower output voltage since it is intended to top up a starter battery.

Victron Energy’s Skylla-IP44 12/60(1+1) 120-240V has IP44 protection. It has a steel epoxy powder coated case and is splash proof. It is built to withstand the rigors of an adverse environment – heat, humidity and salt air. Its circuit boards are coated with an acrylic coating, which maximises its corrosion resistance. This device is also equipped with temperature sensors that ensures that power components will always operate within specified limits, if needed by automatic reduction of output current under extreme environmental conditions.

Skylla-IP44 high-power battery chargers also have built-in LCD display which allows status monitoring and to easily adapt the charge algorithm to a specific battery and its condition of use. The CAN bus interface (NMEA2000) allows users to connect the device to a CAN bus network, a Skylla-i Control Panel or to the Color Control digital display.

The Skylla-IP44 12/60(1+1) 120-240V also features synchronised parallel operation, where several chargers can be connected in parallel and synchronised with the help of the CAN bus interface. This can be achieved by simply interconnecting the chargers using RJ45-UTP cables.

Skylla-IP44 battery chargers ensure that lead-acid batteries always get the correct amount of charge. During shallow discharge, the system will keep the absorption time short to prevent the battery from overcharging. After a deep discharge, the absorption time will be automatically increased to ensure that the battery is completely recharged.

Skylla-IP44 high-power battery chargers can also prevent damage caused by excessive gassing. Its BatterySafe mode will automatically limit the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage has been reach in cases where if a high charge current in combination with a high absorption voltage has been chosen to quickly charge a battery.

The Skylla-IP44 12/60(1+1) 120-240V requires less maintenance and aging when the battery is not in use due to its unique ‘Storage’ mode. This mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the storage mode float voltage is reduced to 2,2V/cell (26,4V for 24V battery) to minimise gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘refresh’ the battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation, a major cause of early battery failure.

Skylla-IP44 models also have battery temperature sensor, which can increase battery life. When connected, charge voltage will automatically decrease with increasing battery temperature. This feature is especially recommended for sealed lead-acid batteries and/or when important fluctuations of battery temperature are expected.

Each model is provided with a voltage sense facility, which can compensate for voltage loss caused by cable resistance. This facility ensures that the battery will always receive the correct charge voltage. And since it has excellent control circuit, the Skylla-IP44 can be used as a power supply with perfectly stabilized output voltage if batteries or large buffer capacitors are not available.

Victron Energy’s Skylla-IP44 12/60(1+1) 120-240V is also Li-Ion (LiFePO4) ready. Simple charger on-off control can be implemented by connecting a relay or open collector opto coupler output from a Li-Ion BMS to the remote-control port of the charger. Alternatively, complete control of voltage and current can be achieved by connecting to the CAN bus port.
