Skylla-i 24/100(1+1) 230V

Product Description

Victron Energy’s Skylla-i 24/100(1+1) 230V is a flexible high-power battery charger. Next to a CAN bus (NMEA2000) interface, a rotary switch, DIP switches and potentiometers are available to adapt the charge algorithm to a particular battery and its conditions of use.

Skylla-i high-power battery chargers features synchronised parallel operation where a number of chargers can be synchronised with the CAN bus interface by interconnecting the chargers using RJ45 UTP-cables.

Skylla-i battery chargers also features variable absorption time, which ensures the correct amount of charge for lead-acid battery. This feature keeps the absorption time short during shallow discharges to avoid overcharging the battery. Alternatively, when the battery has been deeply discharged, it automatically increases the absorption time to ensure that the battery is completely charged.

These battery charges also come with BatterySafe mode to prevent damage due to excessive gassing. If a high charge current in combination with a high absorption voltage has been chosen to quickly charge the battery, the Skylla-i will automatically limit the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage has been reached to avoid damage.

Its Storage mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been discharged within 24 hours. During the ‘storage mode’ the float voltage is reduced to 2 V/cell (26,4 V for 24 V battery) which minimises gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Furthermore, once a week, the voltage will be raised back to the absorption level to ‘refresh’ the battery. Thus, it prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation, which are two major causes of early battery failure. Furthermore, this storage mode makes the system require less maintenance.

Victron Energy’s Skylla-i 24/100(1+1) 230V, like other models in the Skylla-i line, has battery temperature sensor, which can increase battery life. When it is connected, the charge voltage will be automatically decreased when the battery temperature increases. Such feature is highly recommended for sealed lead-acid batteries and/or when important fluctuations of battery temperature are expected.

Skylla-i high-power battery chargers also have battery voltage sense feature that compensates for voltage loss due to cable resistance. The voltage sense facility built within Skylla-i models makes sure that the battery is always receiving the right amount of charge voltage.

Skylla-i 24/100(1+1) 230V is suitable for AC and DC supply (AC-DC and DC-DC operation). This device can be used as a power supply if the batteries or large buffer capacitors are not available because of the perfectly stabilised output voltage.

Skylla-i battery chargers are Li-Ion (LiFeO4) ready. Users can implement a simple charger on-off control by connecting a relay or open collector optocoupler output from a Li-Ion Battery Management System to the charger’s remote-control port. Alternatively, by connecting to the galvanically isolated CAN bus port, users can achieve complete control of voltage and current.
